What is Add Signature to PDF?
Add Signature to PDF lets you sign a document by drawing your signature with a mouse, trackpad or finger, or by uploading an image of your signature. Place it anywhere on the page, resize and rotate it, then download the signed PDF. It's meant for everyday sign-offs, not as a legally verified digital signature.
How to use Add Signature to PDF

Example: signing a rental agreement without printing it
A tenant receives a rental agreement PDF and needs to sign and return it the same day, without access to a printer or scanner. They draw their signature on the pad using a trackpad, switch the pen color if they want something other than the default, click Use This Signature, then click the signature line on the page to place it, drag it into position, adjust the width so it looks like a natural size relative to the page, and download the signed PDF ready to email back.
Tips for a natural-looking signature
- Drawing with a finger on a touchscreen, or with a stylus, generally produces a smoother, more natural signature than a mouse, which only moves in straight segments between clicks.
- The drawn signature is automatically trimmed to its own bounding box and rendered on a transparent background, so it won't leave a white rectangle behind when placed on the page.
- If you're uploading an existing signature image instead of drawing one, a PNG with a transparent background works better than a JPG, which will place as a solid rectangle behind the signature.
- Use Clear on the pad to redo a stroke before confirming it; once you've clicked Use This Signature, use Change Signature in the placement panel to redraw or swap it without starting the whole tool over.
Is Add Signature to PDF safe?
Yes. A drawn signature is trimmed to its own bounding box and kept on a transparent background before pdf-lib places it on the page locally, so neither your PDF nor your signature (drawn or uploaded) ever leaves your browser — though note it's a placed image, not a cryptographically verified digital signature.
