Example: filling in a blank line on a scanned form

Someone receives a scanned application form as a PDF with a blank line where a date or reference number needs to go, but the form has no fillable fields and the underlying text can't be edited directly (see the FAQ below for why). They navigate to that page in the preview, click on the blank line to drop a text box there, type "22 August 2026", drag it slightly to line up with the rule on the page, adjust the font size to roughly match the surrounding print, then click Add Text to This Page and download the completed form — no printing or scanning required.

Tips for placing text accurately

Text is always added in black using a standard Helvetica font — there's no color or font-family choice, so aim to match the font size to the surrounding text rather than its exact typeface.
Placement is set the instant you click on the preview; drag it into position before clicking Add Text to This Page, since the position can't be adjusted again once it's applied to that page.
Center alignment is useful for short labels that need to stay centered as you change the font size, such as a caption under a diagram.
Each click of Add Text to This Page only writes to the page currently shown in the preview — to add text on other pages, navigate there with the arrows and repeat.

Is Add Text to PDF safe?

Yes. The page you're editing is rendered locally with PDF.js and your text is written into it with pdf-lib's built-in Helvetica font — no page or text you type is ever sent to a server, and nothing is kept once you close the tab.
