Picking a direction and quality
As soon as you add your first image, the output format is pre-selected for you: a file that's already WebP defaults to converting to JPEG, and anything else (JPG or PNG) defaults to converting to WebP — you can change it from the dropdown before converting. The quality slider affects WebP and JPEG output only, and only converting to JPEG fills transparent areas with solid white before drawing; WebP and PNG output both keep the alpha channel exactly as it was in the source.
Tips for using WebP
- WebP typically produces the smallest file at a given quality for images that need transparency, since JPEG can't preserve an alpha channel at any quality setting.
- If a tool, CMS or older device doesn't accept WebP, converting back to JPEG or PNG here takes one click — no need to find the original file again.
- For a batch with mixed source formats, double-check the pre-selected output format before converting — it's chosen based on the very first image you added, not each individual file.
