Add Page Numbers stamps a number onto every page of a PDF in the position and format you choose. It's a quick way to finish a document before printing or sharing, without needing a full desktop PDF editor.

When to use this
Say a report was split into two PDF files, and part one ends on page 42 — part two needs to start numbering at 43 instead of 1. Load part two, set "Starting number" to 43, choose a position like Bottom center, pick a format, and click Add Page Numbers. Every page gets stamped in sequence starting from 43, so the two files read as one continuous document when combined later.
Tips for adding page numbers
- Add page numbers last. This tool doesn't merge, reorder or delete pages, so if you plan to do any of those, finish them first — page numbers are stamped as fixed text and won't shift or renumber if you add or remove pages afterward.
- The "Page X of N" format calculates N once from the document's full page count, so it stays correct even when you set a custom starting number.
- Numbers are drawn with the standard Helvetica font built into pdf-lib — there's no option to upload a custom font or change the color.
- Each position keeps a fixed margin from the page edge, so on unusually small page sizes the number can end up closer to body content than on a standard page.
Is Add Page Numbers safe?
Yes. Numbers are stamped using pdf-lib's built-in Helvetica font and the "Page X of N" count is calculated locally from the document's page total, all inside your browser — your PDF is never uploaded to a server, and nothing is retained once you close the tab.
